Soul Eater Episode 11 Review

We continue where we left off with Soul Eater episode 11 with Tsubaki waging a war of the souls with her older brother, the Fey Blade Masamune. The Fey Blade Masamune has all the usual emo, world-hating, self-esteem issues one would expect to find in such a character. Tsubaki wins (duh) and levels up.

Most of Soul Eater episode 11 was basically the fight, with a few flashback inserts and scenes where Black Star sits around as a human punching bag. Tsubaki wraps up her loose ends and finally takes a soul for herself. I am assuming she does, in fact, eat her brother’s contaminated soul, considering she gained a Demon Blade form at the end, though it isn’t actually shown.

Black Star is his usual idiot self, but this episode reaffirms their bond as weapon and master. The scrub gets owned by the new Demon Blade form Tsubaki gained because it’s too intense even for his god sized ego.

Soul Eater episode 11 shows the Camilla trumping over Masamune, knife against fey blade, boobs, against balls, loyalty against emo-ness. While entertaining and conducive to the character development of Black Star and Tsubaki, Soul Eater episode 11 is still, ultimately, a sideshow. Next week we’ll probably be back on track.

As a side note:

I was talking today to a couple of friends, and they asked me why I wasn’t bothering with reviews for Macross Frontier, even though it’s the third “biggie” anime this season. Well the reason is I have not seen any of the previous Macross series and I didn’t want to jump halfway into a plotline. I was assured that I wasn’t really missing anything, so perhaps I’ll get around to reviewing Macross Frontier sometime in the future.
