Slayers Revolution Episode 3 Review

So here is a brief synopsis for anyone from a younger generation of anime viewers who may not know what Slayers is. Lina basically defeats Rezo the Red Priest, and the magic beast, Chaos Dragon Gaav and Hellmaster Phibrizzo. Oh, and don’t forget Dark Star. Basically at the end of the third series, Slayers Try, Gourry lost his Sword of Light when he returned it to the Otherworlder after they defeated Dark Star. Seriously, the last 5 episodes of them fighting Dark Star is what hooked me into Slayers and anime in the first place.

So basically Slayers Revolution is Lina and Gourry on the path of searching for a new sword for Gourry. Maybe¸ maybe, they will follow the manga and put in the Blast Sword. It is difficult to tell at this juncture.

I really dislike how Slayers Revolution 3 uses the serious background music for Slayers Try in such a trivial manner. It feels like they’re really demeaning the serious points of Slayers Try, /Sob.

Slayers Revolution episode 3 isn’t really a filler episode per say. It’s just a junk episode in typical Slayers fashion. If you don’t get Slayers humor, you probably won’t like this episode. As an OG Slayers fan, I dig it. That and the fact that I’ve had nearly 2 bottles of wine. It really emphasizes Gourry’s jellyfish brains.

This episode really kind of reminds me of Slayers the first season. Slayers Revolution definitely has the same vibe as Lina and Gourry are on the run from the law and go around doing whatever the fuck they feel like. Wiser is definitely the gag guy with the main theme being “who the fuck is Pokota.” This was a stupid gag episode that reveals a tiny bit of content along the way typical of the Slayers series. If you’ve seen the rest of Slayers you’ll understand where this episode was coming from.

My problem with Slayers Revolution 3 is that Xellos has still not showed his conniving face. That is seriously disappointing.

As a pure TV series like Slayers Try, unlike Slayers and Slayers Next, this episode wasn’t quite at the same level of Slayers Try. Slayer Try was funnier and both better planned out than what is currently going on with Slayers Revolution. Meanwhile I will recommend Kare Kano if you’re a chick reading this. It’s a good series.
