Slayers Revolution Episode 2 Review

July 10th, 2008 Slayers Revolution by Clave

So…Slayers Revolution is awesome.

After acquiring a different set of subs for Slayers Revolution, I’m getting exponentially more entertainment out of it. Slayers Revolution episode 2 picks up where the story left off last week with Lina pursuing the real culprit that sullied her name.

You really gotta hand it to Megumi Hayashibara who is voicing Lina. All these years and she still nails it head on, along with the rest of the Slayers cast.

I realize that Slayers humor is somewhat juvenile, and Slayers Revolution 2 is no exception, but this is an old favorite of mine and nothing in the world can diminish my ardor for this series. It’s like finding the candy cane you set aside as a child one Christmas only to discover its magically and wonderfully chemically altered into crack cocaine.

So the little green dude with hands for ears is apparently the real reason Lina is being pursued by the cops. We discover he is the inventor of the mage tanks and has also managed to create a dummy version of the Sword of Light. I nearly shit my pants when I saw it, largely because it was like, “WTFH?” They have a sorceress battle where it really comes clear just how much they cleaned up the art work. I revise my previous statement last week about the animation. It is slightly better than it used to be.

Wiser seems to be the gag guy in Slayers Revolution. I doubt we’ll ever really get rid of him this season, the question is whether or not we can come to love him the way we did Sylphiel, Martina (okay I didn’t really like her, but I know other people who did), and Filia. In Slayers Revolution 2, Wiser is definitely portrayed as the incompetent klutz who is there just for kicks.

Slayers Revolution 2 didn’t give much screen time to Zelgadis and Amelia, which in my opinion was the only downside—but hey we got to see Lina fire off her signature spell with slightly better graphics, so all is good. Goury had a Tarzan moment that I absolutely loved. I need more Slayers, like… right now.
