I was waiting for this episode before continuing my reviews for Itazura na Kiss. I was getting tired of regurgitating all the usual love drama junk that happens before the moment everyone is waiting for. This anime also tends to be rather difficult to find decent screenshots for…it just isn’t that kind of show.

I haven’t covered much of Itazura na Kiss lately since they entered college largely because I feel like the show took a turn for the worse, going from above average to falling into the usual abyss of cess, kiddy porn, and other bad dramas. Okay, maybe not quite that bad, but close. I was given to understand that the intended ending for Itazura na Kiss will actually be aired in the anime, so I’m mildly curious to see that. Anyways, here we go with Itazura na Kiss episode 11.

Sometimes I’m not sure if it is the blunt honesty of Itazura na Kiss that I like so much, or if it’s the stubborn persistence of Kotoko. Itazura na Kiss episode 9 uses the date/movie/stalker themes and somehow it still manages to be better than the usual crap we’re usually forced to sit through. They don’t bother with fan service, they don’t bother too much with silly gags that have been overdone throughout the years, and they actually always have a slight squeeze of honesty that puts real humanity into the situation.

You would think that Irie Naoki has learned not to try and get the better of Kotoko, not when she has such incredible dirt on him. Girlfriends being good friends with the mother never bodes well for the man. But in Itazura na Kiss episode 7, I’d say Naoki gave as good as he got.

I am rapidly falling for Itazura na Kiss even though I feel like I shouldn’t. Largely my reluctance to admit to loving this show comes from the fact that it is ultimately a drama. Now I’m not saying that dramas can’t be good shows or entertainment, but thus far, nothing really really distinguishes Itazura na Kiss from everything else.

So super clutz Kotoko and super genius Naoki once again gather around to play, this time with friends! I really feel for Naoki when he gets pestered by the entirety of the F class into helping them study. I don’t think I would have done it. The truth of the matter is, many of them probably could have don reasonably well on their own if they had simply kept up with their studying throughout their school years. Their failure isn’t the system’s fault, or Fate, or Naoki. It is their own damn fault and I would laugh when they crashed and burned. Ok, so maybe I would have helped Kotoko, but not everyone else.

Itazura na Kiss is something that I tentatively decided to pick up and very nearly dropped after the first episode. Nothing about it stood out to me: two high school age people are forced together into awkward circumstances with the understanding that they will eventually fall in love. I have not seen the source material, be it manga, light novel, or graphic novel for Itazura na Kiss, but given the context of the series, it really doesn’t take a genius to figure out where it’s going.
